The smiling figure of the man in the painting is reminiscent of the working class character in the older generation who would like to keep the spirits up and crack a few jokes for free, the amateur comedian or perhaps the compare at the working man's club.
This painting was featured as the promotion image for the show and exhibited at Arthur Berry : Old Timers at Barewall Gallery 21st July to 16th September 2018.
