This book was written in 1989 and is known to have kickstarted the idea of a lesser discussed school that of the Northern School of British Art. This helped to create a collected school of artists which expanded the Northern School well beyond that of the most well known from Salford, LS Lowry. A later edition was released in 2016 by Clark Art which included three Potteries artists. In 2021 Peter Davies wrote Arthur Berry A Ragged Richness which was published in Nov 2021.
